Thursday morning Jeff, Nancy, Bob, and Renee leathered up and headed for the mountains. The temp. was in the 50' & 60's  (COLD) and even though it was cloudy part of the day, the views were great. We stopped alot of times for the scenery, stopped at Craggy Gardens, went to the top of Mt. Mitchell (ate in resturant there) and Elk Mountain Overlook. The Blue Ridge Parkway is a great ride but we always try to get off by nightfall because of the fog and wildlife. We saw 7 deer and 2 wild turkeys and the fog did close in before we got off but what a fun day.

At the top of Mt Mitchell (elevation 6578') there was so much fog you couldn't see anything.  But traveling on, there were times it cleared up and you could even see some fall colors out there....

It was early evening when we arrived in Mt. Airy, NC - the town portrayed in the TV series Andy of Mayberry. We stayed in the Mayberry Motor Inn (we had stayed here before) and it was a perfect place to stay. Across the street we ate at Goobers and our evening entertainment was in the Andy Griffith Playhouse where locals were performing.

We had breakfast in the Snappy Diner. They all carried on with us there. What a hoot!
