Wednesday - Lee called this morning from her office as she tries hard to catch up on some paperwork. Terry was resting on the couch and had already done his antibiotic IV and had a bath. Lee said Terry slept pretty good - unfortunately she did not and was real tired. Terry is working on pain management in an attempt to take less pain meds. As we all be thankful this holiday weekend of all we have I know I will be thankful for my friendship with Terry & Lee and VERY thankful that he seems to be on the mend now. Happy Thanksgiving.
In hard times Thank God for the good things - even in hard times there is good.

Boy was I surprised when I called the Cross house and Sean told me his parents had gone to the store! I talked to Lee shortly after that and she said Terry had cabin fever so they ran to Home Depot and Lowes. He wasn't out too long but will be glad to get back home and get some pain medicine - he could have taken it at 6:00 but wasn't home. It has tired him out getting out but it wil also help build strength. It is so good that he felt like getting out. Coninue to keep them in your prayers and contact them when you can.

Rainy Monday - Late this afternoon I talked with Lee and she said it had been a quiet day for them. She got out at lunchtime to run to the store for a minute but Terry has mostly just had his leg propped up. When he got out for a short time Saturday evening it swelled pretty big. It is back down now but whew! He goes to the doctor again on Wednesday and it will be good to see what the doc says. Hope all is looking good!

Today - Wednesday - Terry had a doctors appointment and has had a pretty full day out but it seemed to do him some good to be out. The doctor said his leg looks good (except for a nasty looking wound but it is healing) and his range of motion is now just past 90 degrees. The doctor said this was good and to just keep working it at about that amount while the break heals. All staples and stitches have been removed on the exterior. No weight can be put on his leg until further notice but he can get around some with crutches and his wheelchair. Being out today did NOIT make his leg swell up real bad. That is wonderful. He goes back to the doctor in 3 weeks. His infection level is continuing to drop. WAHOO! That is great. It is down to 21.4. His hemoglobin level in coming up (like it is supposed to do) and is now at 11.4. The good range on this is 13-17. His white blood count is in the correct range and his red blood count is just below what it should be. He still daily takes an antibiotic (Daptomycin) thru the Picc line in his arm. He is to continue the risanpin also. Obviously something is working but the side effects of this new antibiotic are that it can make your joints stiff and achy. It is doing that but if it is bringing the infection level down, stiff and achy are okay for now.

Thursday Nov. 29 Okay, medical news is good but endurance during healing is tough. Take a very active person who has already been out of commission for MONTHS and tell them they still can't do much for at least 10 more weeks! Owww, what a feeling that would be. That is where Terry is. Be creative - think of a way to cheer him up!

I'm glad to hear Terry is finally on what seems to be the real road to recovery. I know how hard it must be for him to be still. It would be great if we could figure out a way to get him safely up the stairs for the next meeting to attend the Christmas Social.

Dec. 1 Saturday - Terry got out for a while today and seemed to be feeling pretty good. It was late afternoon when we say him and he was getting tired but doing good. We met at Molina's to eat and after just a while of sitting in the hard chair he was hurting cause his little hiney doesn't have much padding right now! He and Lee and the boys had been out for a while and they all had a good time.

Monday - Terry had an appointment with his infectious disease doctor today and was told that he may change from the liquid antibiotic that goes in the picc line to antibiotic pills within a few weeks. Terry told the doctor he did not want to be premature with picc line removal but would be glad to make the change to pills. Terry has also decreased the amount of pain medicine he takes down to a minimum. Yesterday he took a pain pill at 6:00 am and not again to midnight. He had one this morning and needs another now (4:00 PM) but has been out for most of the day so I am sure is in some pain. That is his news for today!

Ran in to Lee & Terry at lunchtime today and ate with them at Firehouse subs. Terry looks like he is feeling better and has a little more energy. He said he'd be at the meeting on Tuesday night for the Christmas Social. He told me he had cut way back on his pain meds and the only problem was the achiness in his joints from the antibiotic, but that would go away when he quits taking the antibiotic. See you tomorrow night!

Dec. 8 - Terry participated in the Travelers Rest Christmas parade today riding in a truck just in front of the motorcycles. After the parade many of us went to Terry & Lee's house for our annual soup supper and he was right in there with us the whole afternoon. I am sure he was exhausted but it was so great to have the fun time with him. Each outing helps him build up his strength but also zaps his strength on that day. By late afternoon he was really tired but seemed to handle the day really well. He does still get one daily antibiotic through his picc line and another by mouth but hopefully the one through the picc line will stop soon. He and Lee were the perfect host & hostess (like always) and with all else they have had to go through, we appreciate all of the effort they made for us!

December 11, 2007 Terry is running a high fever tonight and feels real bad. Hopefully he is just worn out and his body is working overtime healing but keep him in your prayers. I will let you know as I find out how he is doing.

Terry's temperature rose and fell several times during the night, sometimes being as high as 102 degrees. Lee talked with the doctor's office today and he will be going to see the Infectious Disease doctor tomorrow and they will run a CBC and blood culture. He has still been running a high fever today and at times been real achy. He still daily takes an antibiotic (Daptomycin) thru the Picc line in his arm and he is supposed to continue the risanpin until next week. He has made sure to drink alot so he won't dehydrate but has not felt like eating. I will let you know what the doctor says tomorrow when I hear from them.

Terry is back home from the doctor now and he did get his picc line removed. They think he had infection inside around it but there were no visible signs of infection. When he used it to get his antibiotic at home the last few days, he got bad chills just after and has had a hard time with his temperature. They said if it was infection in the picc line area, he should feel better within the next 24 hours. He will now be on another type of antibiotic and hopefully it will work as good as the Daptomycin has worked. He also continues the risanpin (antibiotic pill). He will be resting today and hopefully start feeling better later today!

Terry is improving more and more each day however sometimes it is hard for him since it will be such a slow process. Wanting to quickly heal and get back to "Normal" life makes it hard not to get frustrated when he has a day with pain or a day that he just doesn't feel good. Keep him and his family in your prayers as he continues to heal and contact him when you have a chance. Sometimes a simple phone call can make a big difference!
