On The Road With Nancy & Jeff
Hogs on the High Seas RallyBy: Nancy Plumblee
What an adventure! Imagine... 1800 ‘Hogs’ on a ship, poker walk, 50/50’s, belly flop contest, best beard contest, topless man contest, ‘treasured chest” contest and much more on the ship. There were stops in the ports of Labadee, Haiti, Ocho Rios, Jamaica, Grand Cayman, Cozumel, Mexico. Aboard the Royal Caribbean’s Mariner of the Seas, we spent a week touring beautiful tropical sites, playing and eating. This was the annual Hogs on the High Seas Rally to the Caribbean.
All of this fun and it was for a worthy cause. We knew this was a fundraiser cruise for Kidney Dialysis but I really knew very little about Kidney Dialysis. Now I know it is a life-saving treatment for people who don’t have functioning kidneys. About 15 dialysis patients had the opportunity to go on the cruise with their expenses paid and medical equipment set up on the ship to provide their dialysis. Meeting and talking with some of these patients was a blessing. They were so grateful to have the opportunity for this trip. They are usually confined close to home for their treatments. It was a paradise for them in more ways than one!
The fundraisers were so much fun, it made you want to give. We were never asked for money. By the end of the week approximately $182,000 was collected for the dialysis fund. Unreal!
Just like a dream. We are already booked for the November 2008 cruise. Better check on it soon if you want to go.
