Just My Dad & I Cruising the Outer Banks of NC
By:  Ashley Estepp
Travelers Rest, SC

Some people enjoy riding their own motorcycle, but I like riding on the back of my dad’s Ultra Classic Electric Glide.  There’s no better seat in the world for the views we’ve seen in the Outer Banks of North Carolina.

On our first day of riding we went to see some of the famous lighthouses.  Starting with the Currituck Lighthouse.  My dad, brother and I climbed all 209 stairs to the top.  My dad started out strong but his energy fizzled out about half way to the top.  With a few breaks, we finally made it.  My dad said the view was worth the climb.  Afterwards, my family and I took a 45-minute ferry ride across the Atlantic ocean.  While we were on the ferry, we saw dolphins jumping up and down out of the water.  When we arrived on Orocoke Island, we toured it’s lighthouse and explored the beautiful island.  It was getting dark as we rode back to the docks where we took another ferry back to our condo.  It was an amazing ride being out on the Atlantic Ocean at night.  The next day we rode by the beach where we saw 100-foot sand dunes that of course, we had to climb!  That was not easy in Harley boots.  My dad and brother made it to the top first.  My mom and I made it up a little bit later.

There were signs that said wild horses could be seen galloping on the shore line.  On our stay there we didn’t see any horses but some say they have.  Later, we found ourselves on a two-mile long bridge.  It had a great view of the ocean.  Of course, no trip would be complete without visiting a Harley shop.  As a matter of fact, we rode to three of them.

This was a great vacation and I had the best seat to see it from...on the bike with my dad.
