Do you remember Maypops?  I had forgotten about them until recently I found some at my aunt's house. They have a pretty purple flower and I picked a few to take home. They wilted before I could get home but I put them in a vase anyway. Within a day or two the pops were forming. Oh, the memories! We used to throw them at each other!
The picture of the flower itself is not one I took but the pops are.

We also found muscadine vines in the trees.

A few other shots on our walk last week....

Looks like Sharons backyard area. She has muscadines attached to her wooden swing covering it like a canopy. And  maypops along the fence as well as those purple hanging flowers that I cant think of the name right now. Really make you sneeze in the spring.

Sounds like she has a great place. Does she love to just sit out there?  I would.

I love the Maypop.  It brings back wonderful memories of me and my sister finding them in the fields around our house.  Mama taught us to break sticks and make legs, tails, ears and horns to make different animals.  We would find smaller ones and attach it with a stick to make the head.  Who needs video games?

I've heard that it's called a Maypop because if you squeeze it, it 'may pop' but I know that if you stomp on it, it makes a loud pop.

The flower is also known as the Passion flower and tells the crucifixion story.  The three pistils represent the nails driven into Christ's hands and feet, the five stamens represent his wounds, the floral fringe or crown, represents the crown of thorns placed on Christ's head, the tri-pointed leaves represent the spear, and the tendrils represent the whips.
