When I first read about Monkey Island (Also known as Morgan Island) off of the coast of Beaufort, SC in my new Weird Carolinas book, I thought it was a mistake. Monkeys off the South Carolina Coast? Well it is actually true. There is an island that has monkeys on it for Federal Projects. It has no trespassing and is restricted access but I understand you can get close enough in a boat to see the monkeys. I have even heard that a few people approached the island in a kayak and got some good pictures of the monkeys. There are some 6,000 monkeys on the 400 acre piece of land. How cool is that!!!  Has anyone else been there?
